From the very beginning, it has been realised that the best exploration of technology is based on better understanding of fundamental principles of science. In view of this universal fact, we are happy to present this new and second edition of the textbook for the UG students of science and engineering.

In this book, the subject matter is explained in adequate detail and includes the syllabi of almost all Indian technological universities. Solved examples and practice problems have been provided for all chapters. Practice exercises including numerical problems, multiple-choice questions, and fill-in-the-blanks are provided along with answers to build up the confidence of students and to encourage them to study the topic in-depth.

Noting that a large number of texts on engineering physics existing today mostly do not discuss the modern aspects of new engineering materials and their applications in recent technology, this comprehensive text was designed by the authors and presents a balanced account of the fundamentals of physics as well as some of the recent developments in this area best suited to engineering applications. To comprehend the crux of a chapter at a glance, formulae and highlights are given at the end of each chapter. Difficult topics have been explained in simple language with suitable illustrations. Questions asked in various technological university examinations have been included within the solved examples and in chapter-end exercises.

  • Covers syllabi of almost all technological universities in India
  • Includes a new chapter: Vector and Basic Laws of Electromagnetism
  • Includes new topics: Gradient, Divergence, and Curl; Oscillation; Coupled Oscillations; Ferromagnetism; and Weiss Law
  • Includes numerous solved examples for better understanding of the fundamental concepts of physics
  • Provides a multitude of numerical problems taken from the examinations of different technological
  • universities as solved examples
  • Includes formulae and highlights for ‘chapters at a glance’
  • Illustrates complex phenomena as figures and diagrams in the simplest manner possible
  • Includes fundamentals of engineering materials and new engineering materials
  • Includes digital learning app CengageApp that includes flashcards, MCQs, solutions manual, and videos on difficult topics
